An Evening With Paloma Herrera

An Evening with Paloma Herrera will be in the Da:ns Festival 2009 on 26 and 27 October!
Paloma Herrera has been a Principal Dancer at American Ballet Theatre since 1995, after joining as a corps de ballet in 1991. She is currently 34 years old!
Her with Jose Manuel Carreno in Le Corsaire.
To be really honest, I'm not a great fan of her. The reasons why I'm attending the performance even though the tickets are pricey and on the EXACT day of my olvels (26- english; 27 and 28- emath) is because of Marcelo Gomes, Yuan Yuan Tan and Mizuka Ueno. Okay la there are other performers such as Tiit Helimets, Iana Salenko, Marian Walter and Ashley Bouder. Don't think I want to pay $20 and sit at shitty sits. Rather buy $100 tickets and sit near to Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong, and to be close enough to see the dancer's every single detail. Mad awesome! Last year's Russian Ballet Gala, I sat in the first few rows with Stefanie, and I was close enough to see Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. AS WELL AS SEE THE CREASES OF THE BALLERINA'S SHOES! DAMN COOL A NOT YOU TELL ME???! I forgot how much was last year's tickets though, probably $90??
Anyway, back to the ballet dancers that I'm excited about watching... If you are a ballerina and you don't know who Marcelo Gomes is you should slap your face.
I've featured 2 videos of Mizuka Ueno in the previous post; she's a principal dancer at Tokyo Ballet =)
Yuan Yuan Tan, is a chinese! And me being a Chinese myself, I'm obviously very biased towards Chinese ballerinas! I can tell you I love Zhang Si Yuan, Zhao Qian Peng, Yuan Yuan Tan, Zhong-Jing Fang.... etc etc etc. Anyway, you would think that her Chinese surname is chen; it is actually Tan. 谭元元. As a Principal Dancer in the San Francisco ballet, she trained at the Shanghai Dance School since she was 11 years old. She is widely believed to be the current best ballerina in China, and the only Chinese ballet dancer to reach the rank of principal dancer at a major international ballet company.
Video of her (first) with Liu Yan (Paralysed super pro chinese dancer. Shenna if you are reading this, I think Liu Yan's extensions are better than Alina Somova's :P) and Yang Liping. Hahaha I love the music of this song, it just get stuck in my head on and on. Her lines are so clean and fluid! And you can really see that she loves to dance (I don't know how to explain it, because I'm sure all ballerinas love to dance, but you can see it in her dancing)
Mad excited to watch it and to me, this has so much more worth than studying or doing math. In fact, I will be reviewing the performance. MY FIRST TIME! :D Okay la maybe only, see mood first haha!
Oh ya, I followed Ashley Bouder on Twitter! :D:D
And... Anyone wants to go with me? I don't want talkative people because I want to concentrate and see every detail and admire the articulated footwork. =) Elvina is going with me already! :D
P/s: Okay la, actually I have not confirmed with my mum if I can go for 2 days, my dad say yes but my mum is hesitant and reluctant. She didn't want to let me go at first so I told her "it's like watching Arthur Rubinstein lor!" And she was shocked that I knew who she is.
P/p/s: the school is playing classical music everyday and it's awesome because (classical music is ATAS) I also like classical music. But the horrible thing is that they played Vivaldi's Spring from four seasons for 2 consecutive days. THE SAME MOVEMENT SOMEMORE. omg -.- HAahha and on friday me and Joann were arguing whether Chopin's nocturne was the one in aflat or eflat minor. I said it was A flat. Okay I was wrong. It was in E flat. Omg I swear the school should do this everyday man! (and I'm secretly happy that they didn't blast patriotic songs during the national day period haha) If you are thinking why I know so much classical music is because 1. My mum is a piano teacher. 2. My parents listen to Symphony 92.4FM, especially in the car. 3. Ballet music are mostly classical music, Chopin's Nocturne in E flat Minor was used in Chopiniana (Les Sylphides).
Pink: Thanks!
Shenna: Yup she really studied there! 11-15 years old I think.
Jasmine: Too many schools in bedok D:
